Groom's Kakes
|
Once exclusively a fruitcake, it was sliced and placed in small monogrammed boxes for the guests to take home. Unmarried girls placed the cake under their pillows in hopes that the man they dreamed of would become their future husband. This charming Southern tradition disappeared for several decades, but is now making a comeback. It has migrated to all parts of the country and become a popular way for the bride to honor the groom with a personal tribute. Today’s groom’s cake is seldom fruitcake, but can be done in any flavor and generally reflects something unique about the groom himself – a love of fishing, a college logo or just his favorite flavor – chocolate. It is always smaller than the wedding cake, but may be served alongside or placed on its own separate table. |
